Tajuddin Ahmad Memorial Lecture and Award Ceremony, July 3, 2012

The historic inaugural of Tajuddin Ahmad Memorial Lecture and Award Ceremony took place amongst brimming audience at Nabab Nawab Ali Choudhury Senate Bhaban Auditorium, Dhaka University, July 3, 2012.

 The event was organized by Tajuddin Ahmad Memorial Trust Fund, established in Dhaka University, April 17, 2011. It began with the recitations from the holy scriptures of Islam, HInduism,Buddhism and  Christianity.

Sharmin Ahmad, Founder and donor  of Tajuddin Ahmad Memorial Trust Fund at her goodwill message  shared about her father Tajuddin Ahmad’s noble vision for Bangladesh and his life built on integrity, foresight and able leadership- the qualities that can help guide a new generation in Bangladesh and elsewhere. She said that her father was much ahead of his time. The  contributions he made in birthing the nation and guiding it’s course are yet to be properly recognized. She mentioned the need for introducing peace education in all branches of education and preparing the youth to resolving conflicts through rational, wisdom and understanding. 

 

Professor Emeritus Dr. Anisuzzaman in his key note Memorial Speech said that Tajuddin Ahmad was not only the First Prime Minister of Bangladesh, he was also the leader of Bangladesh war of liberation in 1971. He was not only a politician but also a man with mature thoughts on society and statesman like vision- a rare combination for any society. It’s unfortunate for all of us, he said, that Tajuddin Ahmad didn’t get the due honor which he deserved. He was a man with deep love and commitment to his people, yet never sought to be a popular leader. Tajuddin Ahmad stressed on the need for tolerance between different political groups and spoke clearly against the partisan control of state machinery.

 

Among other speakers were Dr. A.A.M.S Arefin Siddque, VC Dhaka University, Dr. Shahid Akhter Hussain, Pro VC ( administration)DU, Dr. Nasrin Ahmad, Pro VC ( Eduction) DU, Dr. Dalem Chandra Barman, Founder, Peace and Conflict Studies and Dr. Kamal Uddin, the treasurer DU,Chairman of the Trust Fund and the ceremony. The program was moderated by Syed Rezaur Rahman, Registrar, DU. 

 

 Anurag Chakma( B.A Hons with a First Class First in the dept. Of Peace and Conflict Studies) was awarded  the Tajuddin Ahmad Peace Scholar Gold Medal, Farhana Ferdous (dept. of Peace and Conflict Studies) received  a one year Female Empowerment scholarship and winners of the essay contest were Md. Abdul Hannan( 1st Prize- Peace and Conflict Studies), Md. Azharul Islam ( 2nd Prize-International Relations) Kabita Islam (3rd prize- International Relations) Md. Habibur Rahman (4th prize- Peace and Conflict Studies) and Muttaki Bin Kamal ( Peace and Conflict Studies). The Essay Topic was

Good Governance, socio-economic, political transformation in Bangladesh 

and Tajuddin Ahmad.
